The Director

Vilas Janve, inspired by his father and Dr. Shail Choyal, a noted painter, has started doing mime since 1972. A self styled, Vilas Janve has been doing mimes as interludes in youth festivals, theatre festivals and cultural evenings but had formally formed "Creative Mime Theatre" Chandigarh in 1980. Given full length Mime shows of 100 minutes with his disciples at different places. He has also contributed programs of Doordarshan Kendra like Jaipur, Jullandhar and Delhi. It was the first time when "Vasant Kaka Mandir" presented mimes in the India's First National Mime festival organized by the Indian Mime Theatre, Calcutta at Habitat Center, New Delhi in September 1998. Vilas Janve also shared his style and views about mime with the fellow artistes and groups. Vilas Janve made his formal guru Shri Niranjan Goswami (Calcutta) and Shri Avanti Lal Chawla (Baroda). V. Janve represented West Zone Cultural Center at the National level Mime festival at Dimapur organized by the North East Zone Cultural Center during March 1999.

The Group

A family devoted and dedicated to the art of "Mukabhinaya".

Vilas Janve and Mrs. Kiran Janve, an artiste couple with their son Ridham and Music Composer Samarth has formed a group " Vasant Kala Mandir " named after Late Shri Vasant V. Janve (Father of Vilas Janve). Janve family has inherited art of stage performance from late Shri Vasant V. Janve who was well known actor, director, make-up man and friendly personality of Rajasthan having association with almost all the Cultural Institutions..

Vilas Janve has been conducting workshop on Pantomimes at Central Jail, Udaipur school for the deaf, Udaipur Shilpgram, West Zone Cultural Center, Udaipur and villages nearby Udaipur through NGGs.

Janve have conducted special workshop and given performances as well as lecture cum demonstration in different cities in India. Vilas takes sessions on mime and movements with CCRT Udaipur. Vilas Janve has been awarded National Senior Fellowship by the Department of Culture, Government of India

Vilas Janve is working with the West Zone Cultural Center since 1986 as Program Officer. He is the designer, compare and organizer of zonal and national level folk festivals. He has been actively associated with "Umang" (a national festival dedicated to the special children with various disabilities) organized by WZCC at Shilpgram Udaipur every year.
